A workshop on “Trade and Agriculture’’ Trends in Ethiopia organized jointly by the Ethiopian Evangelical church Mekane Yesus Development and Social Services Commission (EECMY-DASSC) and Building Eastern Africa Community Network (BEACON) was conducted successfully on March 13-14, 2019 at Kaleb International Hotel.
During the opening of the workshop Dr.Abeya Wakwoya, the EECMY-DASSC Programs Director said that Ethiopia as an Agrarian country it is important to organize training for staff working on agriculture related issues to scale up the activities and production.
Rebecca Tanui, a coordinator of BECON, on her part mentioned that, one of the objectives of BEACON is to contribute to the economic empowerment of communities in East and horn of Africa and her organization: – BEACON focuses on providing various training to enhance the capacity of member churches in Ethiopia that are engaged in the development sector broadly on agriculture.
Building Eastern Africa Community Network (BEACON) is a regional trust, founded as a fellowship of churches, church related organizations, NGOs and other faith communities working for holistic development, social and economic transformation of communities in East and horn of Africa.
Overview of the Agriculture in Ethiopia, understanding the existing Agricultural policy, trade policies, and related Treaties and, challenges and opportunities of agriculture development in Ethiopia were the major topics covered during the training session. The training was provided by Dr. Lemma Zemedu from Alemaya University
Participants are from the EECMY-DASSC, the Ethiopian Orthodox Church Development and Inter-Church Aid Commission (EOC-DICAC) and Ethiopian Full Gospel Believers Church Development Organization
